⑧Different attendants

Maria looks after some cabins in the mountains.

In Japan people often say ‘ a cabin attendant or CA’ for peoople working on airplanes but…

Maria’s sister is an international flight attendant.

…in English we say ” a flight attendant.”

Some people understand that ‘cabin attendant’ means ‘flight attendant’. Many people do not understand the meaning of ‘cabin attendant’ though. They might think it is someone who looks after a cabin – a cabin on a ship or a cabin in the mountains for example, like the one Maria is in front of.

If you are on an airplane you will probably hear the word ‘cabin crew’. That means the team of flight attendants.

The word ‘attendant’ means someone who stays in a particular place to help visitors or customers do something.

Example – a car-park attendant, an attendant at a petrol station
