Hanami is cherry blossom viewing. People eat and drink under the cherry blossom trees with families, friends and colleagues. People usually do Hanami in parks or near rivers.
The cherry blossoms usually start blossoming in the south of Japan in early March and in the north of Japan over a month later. Most of the cherry trees are are a type called ` Somei-Yoshino´ that were planted so that they bloom at the same time.
