The rainy season in Japan affects most of Japan but it doesn’t affect Hokkaido. It usually continues for over a month, starting in May in southern Japan and in June in more northern areas.
There are official starting and ending dates, which are different every year. It might rain on those days or it might not! Not every day is rainy and often the rain is light and some years there is very little rain. Some parts of Japan have more rain in September and October but June and early July is usually the cloudiest time of the year.
In recent years the ending of the rainy season is not as clear as in the past some people say. In the past, the rainy days would suddenly end and the very hot, sunny days of summer would start.
Hydrangea flowers bloom during the rainy season and are a rainy season image. Snails are an image of the rainy season too but their numbers have decreased a lot in recent years.
